Audio Reaction Time Test
Most reaction tests use a color change. This one uses sound: the screen stays dark, a short beep plays after a random wait, and you click, tap or press Space as soon as you hear it. Five rounds give you an average in milliseconds.
It is a good way to compare how you respond to sound versus sight – run the visual test on the homepage with the same device and see which is faster for you.
Before you start
- Turn your volume up and, ideally, use wired headphones or speakers – Bluetooth audio adds a noticeable delay.
- Press Start: browsers only allow sound after you interact with the page.
- Keep your eyes off the screen if you like – the screen does not change when the beep plays.
Why sound reaction can differ
Hearing and vision travel different paths to the brain, and many people find their audio times slightly faster. On a computer the result also includes audio output delay, which varies between devices and is especially large with wireless headphones. That is why the same setup should be used for every comparison.
FAQ
Why can't I hear the beep?
Check that the tab is not muted and your volume is up. Some phones play no sound in silent mode.
Do Bluetooth headphones affect my result?
Yes. Wireless audio often adds a delay that makes your measured time slower than your real reaction.
What counts as a false start?
Clicking before the beep plays. The round is repeated and the false start is shown in your result.
